US President Joe Biden is hosting a virtual summit with world leaders on Wednesday, September 22, to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic, a day after his address at the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
While addressing his first UNGA on Tuesday, Biden declared that the world stands at an "inflection point in history" and must move quickly on issues including the pandemic, climate change, and human rights abuses. The US president also stated that the US is “not seeking a new Cold War," without directly mentioning China.
"This meeting is about expanding and enhancing our shared efforts to defeat COVID-19" and will seek to "align on a common vision" against the virus, said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. The list of participants hasn’t been disclosed.
