Russian President Vladimir Putin said he has been forced to go into self-isolation due a case of COVID-19 in his closest circle.

Putin made the announcement at virtual meeting with members of the government and the United Russia party leadership on Tuesday.

"I had to postpone my trip to Tajikistan. This is because several people in my closest surroundings have fallen ill, and one of the staff members is someone who works in close proximity to me. He was vaccinated, his titers dropped, and he was revaccinated, but apparently a bit too late," said Putin.

The president noted that he had communicated with the sick person the day before and for quite a long time.

"It’s a natural experiment: let’s see how Sputnik V really works in practice. The titers I have, on the overall numbers, are quite high, but let’s see what it looks like in practice, in life," Putin added.

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): "I had to postpone my trip to Tajikistan. This is because several people in my closest circle have fallen ill, and one of the staff members is someone who works in close proximity to me. He was vaccinated, his titers dropped, and he was revaccinated, but apparently a bit too late. Three days after the revaccination, I think, he got sick. I had been in very close contact with him the day before, all day long. Why am I saying this? It’s a natural experiment: let’s see how Sputnik V really works in practice. The titers I have, on the overall numbers, are quite high, but let’s see what it looks like in practice, in life. I hope that everything will be as it should be, and that Sputnik V will really show its high COVID-19 protection parameters in real life."

SOT, Tatiana Golikova, Russian Deputy Prime Minister (Russian): "A special category requiring additional support are retirees. In accordance with your decree, a one-off payment of 10,000 roubles (137,05 USD) was launched in September. This measure affects 42.8 million retirees; the total amount of funds allocated is 433 billion roubles (6 billion USD). To date, 39,3 million people have already received payment; the remaining 3,5 million people will receive payment by September 16 – in time for the delivery of pensions by post offices."
